Photographer/Artist: Alexia Sinclair
A Frozen Tale from Sinclair & Hill on Vimeo.
I found this Video whilst browsing Vimeo showing the production of one of the images of the series A frozen Tale by Australian Artist/Photographer Alexia Sinclair.
The video to me was very interesting because it shows all of the work that goes behind making a creative portrait such as this. As you can see in the video a lot of planning went into the shoot which was later captured on a studio backdrop and then composed in photoshop and brought to life. The Photographer also designed the dress in her vision with a little help so it really shows that working as a team to make the image come together is really important if its quite complicated. The help of an MUA and Hair stylist collaborating and helping bring the image to life is really important in creating the overall vision/feel of the model in the image.
I love how this Artist makes her photos look so animated and almost like a painting.
Above is an example of the final image in the Video as well as a more recent image from the series 'The art of Saving a Life' which was based around depicting the the initiation of the first Small Pox Vaccination by Edward Jenner.
Sinclair's work is always painterly and very colourful which makes them seem all the more magical and quite like a dream or fairytale. She also uses a lot of symbolism in her work to make the viewer think deeper into the image and try to pick apart what it means.
The photo from 'The art of Saving a Life' is a great example of this as it has a lot of different messages. The bottles on the shelves represent lives lost the the disease, 1 million lives per bottle; 500 bottles. The flowers on the floor and throughout represent the Disease itself which is often described by the Chinese as 'Heavenly Flowers' each spot to the skin representing your fate.
As well as the deeper images and stories she produces she has also been commissioned for many different projects such as Unicef, New Zealand Opera, Qantas, Harpers Bazaar, Canon Australia and Queensland Ballet.
